I recently consolidated old federal student loans. The consolidation is official and completed tommorrow. How long does it take before the default status comes off your financial aid record and does the consolidation company remove it or does the loan guaranteur that the consolidation company bought it from?

Why would a student loan company advertise loan consolidation? Is there a cost to consolidting student loans, or any other loans? What is the lowest rate you can expect if you consolidate now? When is a good time to consolidate?

If these companies are able to find out you have student loans, aren’t they also able to determine the loans are consolidated with someone else? Is it normal to continue receiving these notices? Thanks
p.s. These are mail notices. Also, how do the companies know that you have loans over a certain amount?

Will a “Debt Consolidation ” company also help with Ed fund student loans that are now defaulted?
I am considering looking into debt consolidation. My student loans are being garnished by ed fund from my wages. they have also just taken my Ca state income tax check. If I do debt consolidation, will they be able to stop my wages from being garnished?

We know the downside of – if one of us dies the other is responsible for the loan – but we both have such high interest rates and would love to consolidate before they go up again. We are trying to simplify our finances and reap the benefits of smaller payments…

Hi, My husband just completed the “loan rehabilitation” program through a company called FMS. He did everything as they asked, made a down payment and made 9 on time payments to complete the program. Now they are saying for us to get out of the program and to improve my husband’s credit score, we must sign a loan consolidation form (which they try to tell me ISNT a loan app, but IT IS). There is only ONE loan listed on the form at 8.02% (a G loan they called it) but my husband has several other “D” loans and they aren’t listed. They are saying that unless we sign the form and send it back, we will have to “re-do” the rehabilitation program. I would really like to know if they are trying to trick us. Anyone who has dealt with this type of thing PLEASE help us! Thanks!
